How to Plan a Corporate Family Fun Day That Staff Actually Enjoy

A family fun day can be the most popular event in your company calendar, if the planning is right. Here is how to pick activities, manage the timings and keep every age group happy.

A well-run family fun day does something a team away day rarely manages: it makes people feel appreciated as whole humans, not just employees. Done badly, it is a car park full of bored teenagers and a queue for the one bouncy castle. Here is how to get it right.

Start With Who Is Actually Coming

Before you book anything, work out your likely guest list. A typical staff family day brings a spread of ages, from toddlers to grandparents, and activities need to work across that range. Ask for headcount and children's age bands in the invitation, and you will plan far more accurately than by guessing.

Build a Mix of Activity Types

The best family days balance three kinds of entertainment:

  • Active and competitive: Giant Jenga, Connect Four, skittles, boules and lawn quoits suit all ages and need no explanation. Grown-ups get surprisingly competitive.
  • Immersive and novel: A garden mini golf course gives families a team activity that lasts, with enough variety in the holes to keep children engaged and adults laughing.
  • Memory-making: A photo booth gives every family a keepsake to take home, and it quietly puts your company name in their photo albums.
  • For teens, a retro gaming lounge with arcade cabinets and classic consoles is a reliable draw. It gives them something that does not feel like it was designed for small children.

Plan the Flow, Not Just the Activities

Spread activities across the space so queues never form in one spot. Set up a games zone, a mini golf area and a photo corner with room between them, and place seating and refreshments in the middle. People then drift naturally from one to the next.

Keep the timings loose. A four to five hour window works well, with a clear start for arrivals and a natural high point, such as a mini golf tournament or prize giving, in the middle.

    Think About Weather and Venue

October to March family days usually mean indoor or covered spaces, and many of our activities work beautifully in a marquee or large hall. For summer events, outdoor lawn games and mini golf are at their best. Always check access, ground conditions and power requirements with your venue early. Our team can advise on space needed for each activity.

    Make It Feel Like Yours

Small touches lift a day from fine to memorable. Branded photo booth prints, a company-themed mini golf scorecard or a trophy for the winning family all help. They cost little and people remember them.

    Keep Safety and Supervision Simple

Make sure there is a named point of contact for each zone, clear signage and a quiet area for younger children. Our event staff look after setup, running and packdown so your team can enjoy the day rather than work it.

    Why Hire Rather Than DIY

Hiring professional equipment and attendants means your own staff are guests, not stewards. Everything arrives set up, tested and ready, and you get one point of contact instead of five suppliers.
